The Hidden , the Imagined and the Unconscious.

At times when we fall into a dilemma with life, and find ourselves trapped in a state that we can't get out of or otherwise reflect upon. Some find ways to help cover up the troubles they have, they either go straight into the darkness of depression, or find inner help through meditation. I am discovering what makes these strategies work; and ways to communicate this state of mind visually through images and drawings.

I believe when you communicate with your inner self with your fears and your secrets, you become a better and stronger person. Your life would not only be enriched with imaginations but also with all the new discoveries you may find about yourself. There is a dialogue between the imagination and the reality, which sometimes hidden or non-existing because of the social barriers that often stop people from expressing who they really are.

A series of six different animated drawings played on three different videos, each has its own place of communication. I want my images to come alive not only through drawings, but through simple movements in the videos. Audiences are invited to walk around and interact with the space and discover the lives of these drawings. The other works are handmade chains, which also comes alive from the walls as they have the shape of real chain but still have a quality of drawings.

My images suggest moments that may summon dialogues between the conscious and the unconscious from one. Subtle images of daily objects that may represents memories, emotions, and expressions a person might have from their past, current life and or dreams for the future. Creating a space where people can get lost within, where you are whatever you wish to be and however you wish to behave. All the elements suggest a place where there are no limitations on imagination.

The series of Joselyn Repunzel are of people who are being controlled by other things and people in life. She symbolises people who cannot express themselves as individuals and are looking for people to follow. Emily, the girl in raincoat is the opposite to Joselyn, she has no control over her and no one is telling her what to do and she is finding herself among the world looking for her individuality. She indicates the potential that children have, to dream and discover the world, “the girl who has more than one unknown dreams.”

All my drawings are based on people’s behaviours and dialogues of my surroundings. Observing the way they reveal themselves as individuals and how they hide their secrets, but mostly interested in the hidden. I believe the subconscious can have a huge influence over a person’s life, which are the buried secrets. In the large series they show the chaotic journey of life and the only way out is to go into the unknown. Where we learn more about ourselves, and desiring new hopes and dreams.

I want the viewers to have a strong reaction towards my drawings, it doesn’t matter if they are good or bad opinions as long as they are generating questions and dialogues with themselves and with each other.
